Low back pain may be a symptom of chronic kidney disease

There are a lot of people who have low back pain, but they don't take it seriously. This is wrong and may cause serious consequences. Because the kidneys are located in the waist, patients with kidney disease often have symptoms of back pain (kidney pain) . The doctor will also ask if the patient has low back pain at the time of the doctor's visit. So often there are patients who send this question: I feel lumbar discomfort or pain, the kidney will not be a problem?

Low back pain may be a symptom of chronic kidney disease

Many people think that back pain is definitely a problem with the kidneys, while those without back pain will not be kidney disease. Actually not the case. Back pain is just a symptom, not an independent disease. Specifically, the nephrologist asks whether the patient has low back pain or not, which refers to the presence or absence of kidney pain. Everyone has two kidneys, shaped like a faba bean, about 11 centimeters wide, on both sides of the retroperitoneal spine, obliquely across the upper and middle of the kidney by the twelfth rib. Renal area is equivalent to the two kidney in the back of the body surface projection, that is, from the outside of the spine 5 cm outward, up to the 11th thoracic, down to the third between the lumbar region. And some patients talk about low back pain, it does not refer to the kidney area pain, but refers to the entire lower back, including the lumbosacral pain.

Renal area pain is the feeling of self or examination found that the pain of the kidney area. In fact, there is no nerve parenchymal nerve distribution, is painless. People feel the kidney area pain, by the kidney capsule, ureter and renal pelvis affected by the pain involved. Kidney pain associated with kidney disease can be pided into three types: kidney cramps, kidney dull pain, kidney pain area. Renal colic is associated with ureter or ureter obstruction, increased internal pressure caused by spasmodic pain, sudden intermittent severe acute renal pain, often along the ureter to the ipsilateral lower abdomen, perineum and thigh, with nausea , Vomiting, pale, sweating, hematuria and so on. Dull kidney pain is a dull pain, mostly persistent, often accompanied by peritoneal pain peristalsis, more common in acute nephritis, acute pyelonephritis, hydronephrosis, congenital polycystic kidney disease. The distending pain in the renal area is a kind of persistent severe pain, often accompanied by obvious systemic symptoms and percussion pain in the renal region, which is mainly caused by perirenal diseases, such as perirenal abscess, renal infarction, perirenal inflammation, rupture of renal cyst, perirenal hematoma, and so on.But kidney area pain (back pain) can also be caused by other reasons, such as lumbar muscle strain, lumbar hyperostosis, lumbar sprain, pelvic inflammatory disease and so on.

On the other hand, some people with kidney disease have no back pain. Because kidney disease can be very hidden, early in kidney disease can have no symptoms, and when the symptoms are obvious, the condition has been very serious. In fact, most patients with acute and chronic nephritis and nephrotic syndrome have only slight discomfort in the waist, with backache, and rarely severe back pain. Therefore, patients with low back pain should go to the Department of Nephrology, excluding whether caused by kidney disease.
